I need your help with something today.
I’m being cyberbullied. I don’t know who is doing it, and I’m not gonna get into details, but it’s a pretty big downer. This morning I was especially bummed out, but I decided to do something about it. I can’t do it without you.
If you’re reading this, can you do me a huge favour? Do something nice for someone today. Something you wouldn’t usually do. Pay for someone’s coffee, help a neighbour with a chore, even just flash a big smile at someone who looks like they need it on your way to work. It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture - just a conscious effort to inject a little extra positivity into someone else’s life.
After you’ve done your deed(s), let me know what you did. You can either tweet about it with the hashtag #hugsnotshrugs (because I think apathy is the biggest problem facing victims of bullying) or send me an email to email@example.com. THIS PART IS IMPORTANT! Tomorrow I am talking to students at Hants East Rural High about ways to cope with bullying. If I can present them with a list of good things that happened today in Halifax as a result of/response to an instance of bullying, I think it will be much more powerful than the speech I had initially planned.
Please share this as much as possible! I think your efforts today could really make a difference to the kids at HERH. I want them to believe -as I believe - that change is possible and positivity is a powerful force.
